Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an umbrella of interrelated symptoms that are marked by pervasive social impairments, lack of communication, sterotypical behaviors, and restricted interests. It is estimated that 1 in 110 children are afflicted by ASD with 4 times as many boys as girls diagnosed.
Higher estimates on the number of children afflicted have been suggested by a recent study in which all the children in a South Korean community – many of them undiagnosed and untreated – were identified as having ASD.
